Deal With Bad Teachers

Every student has dealt with bad teachers at least once. Dealing with a bad teacher the wrong way can land you into the principal's office, so watch out. This guide can be applied to bosses and other authority figures. I did not make the images in this article. If one of them is yours and you would like me to take it down, please contact me.

Kinds of teachers

How do you tell whether a teacher is bad? Here are some symtoms. Nobody's perfect, so if your teacher displays some but mildly doesn't mean she/he is bad. However, if your teacher displays at least two (Or one but excessively), it's a good chance this teacher is bad.

Playing favourites. Lots, if not most, classes have at least one teacher's pet. The teacher's pet will kiss up to the teacher, answer all the questions, and tattle on the other, less saintly, students. Symtoms will vary with age. (Note: most nerds/smarties are NOT teacher's pets even though they are awesome with their assignments and such) -ahem- OK, back on-topic. The teacher will favor the teacher's pet above other students, such as calling on them much more than others, asking them to do things like demonstrate a problem on the board, read the class work, etc. In extreme cases the teacher will side with them when a conflict arises.

Bullying. This includes picking on a specific student (or the class as a whole. Sometimes this excludes a few students which is also playing favourites), shouting at them, humiliating them, etc. Sometimes the abuse will be more subtle, but it still is abuse.

Doormatting This type of teacher is bad for the class. This teacher will ignore bad students and/or do nothing about bad bad behaviour. Assertiveness is not their strong point.

Permissive This type is similar yet different from the Doormat type. Similarly to the Doormat, the Permissive will let anything slide. Differing from the Doormat however, is that this teacher tends to be apathetic. Anything slides, everyone is treated the same. (Different from fairness-this teacher does not adapt to each of their student's learning styles)

How do Deal with Each Kind

Playing Favourites You might as well ignore this teacher's behaviour if it stands alone. It is just a class after all. If it bothers you, you can talk.

Bullying Stand up to this teacher if the abuse isn't too bad. If it is, you might have to report her/him. Abuse cannot be tolerated. Talking might help, but it won't always work.

Doormatting & Permissive If the bad bahaviour is too much and the teacher is doing nothing, you will have to talk to him or her. If talking doesn't yeild to anything, talk to your principal.

In Conclusion

I hope you won't have to deal with a lot of bad teachers. I also hope this guide helps you. If you need help, be sure to tell your parents, your principal, or a trusted adult. Of course, this varies if you're not in high school XD
