12 Ways to Jump-Start 2010
2010 is here! Here are 12 tips on how to make the most out of the new year. Of course you don't have to do all of them, but do the most you can. ;)- Make Resolutions and stick to them! Making resolutions is easy. Sticking with them is not so easy. Luckily, there are several web apps that will help you stick to your resolutions! From what I hear, Joe's Goals is a good one. Or you could try making a tracking notebook. Stick to those resolutions!
- Make better food choices. SparkPeople is a good place to start.
- Try keeping a journal. That way, in the years to come when you have nothing to do you can flip through your old journals and think, "Was I really that stupid when I was younger?" xD It'll give you better insight on how you think and what you were like when you were younger.
- Take up a hobby or a pastime. It doesn't have to be big; just something to keep you from being bored. Try knitting, origami, scapbooking, web design...The possibilities are endless! If you're good at it, you could even make some extra money doing the thing you love.
- Exercise. It may sound cheesy, but exercising doesn't have to be boring. Try different programs and find which one you really like and stick to it. (I use Core Rhythms) Don't do too much too fast or else you will burn out. Instead, try doing 20 minutes of exercise two to four times a week. You'll be surprised by how good you'll feel and look in just a few weeks.
- Learn something every day. Just a simple fact will do. Start small. Or you could read a Wikipedia article a day. Other ways are joining Wikihow and/or Hunch.
- Read lots of books. Classics are good, but don't limit yourself to just classics; try lots of different genres. Maybe you just might like science fiction or historical fiction! Goodreads is a handy virtual bookshelf for you to keep track of the books you've read.
- If you don't play one already, take up a musical instrument. You'll find it enriches your life and makes you smarter in several aspects such as logic and mathematics. Even if it's just a hobby it'll do much good, believe me. If you do play one, try to improve your playing. A little a day goes a long way. (Hey, that rhymes! xD)
- If you're a Christian, connect with God. Believe it or not, reading the Bible, no matter how boring it may seem, is good for you. A chapter a day works. Read it every day. Especially if you don't feel like it. Pray every day. Especially if you don't feel like it. Go to church at least once a week, even if you feel like relaxing and sleeping in. All of this does you a lot of good in your relationship with God.
- Decrease your time online Or, even better, on the computer. No matter how annoying it may be, your mom may have a point when she says there's a whole world out there. There is. You don't have to go outdoors; you can stay home all day. Work on that knitting project you started six months ago. Finish that model airplane you've been "too busy" to work on. The world is not boring without the computer. I repeat: The world is not boring without the compuer.
- Defeat an addiction. Whether it may be "just" a computer game addiction or something more serious, it's still an addiction. And you need to defeat it. Look up articles on how to defeat your addiction, read self-help books, ask people around you to help...That's just some of the things you can do to erase your addiction.
- Last but not least, be daring. Same old morning routine every day? Try something new! Afraid to go on that scary-looking roller coaster? Suck it up and go on it. (And maybe bring a friend along to cling on) Being daring is good, just don't go overboard.
Thanks for reading! I hope this aricle has helped you. If you want to report a typo, point out something I missed, or just want to send me your questions and comments, use the all-purpose form.
